The Red Doll

Updated: Feb 7

By Bhavika Segu

One day at a yard sale Terissa bought a doll with glossy lifeless eyes. It had a red dress and curly brown hair. Terissa named her doll Meli. She slept with Meli every night.

One night Meli got bored and got out of bed. Then Meli made all the things fly in Terissa’s room until Terissa woke up.Every night Meli kept on doing something strange like making things fly, moving things, and breaking things.

One night Terissa got curious and stayed awake. She pretended to sleep but watched every move that Meli was doing. She felt menacing. The next day Terissa told her parents but they didn’t believe her. But Terissa was determined and she convinced her parents.

So they all stayed awake one night and they all saw what Meli was doing. They realized the doll was under a spell. So they tried to get rid of Meli. Like dropping Meli outside school, but Meli was sitting on Terissa’s desk. They tried to get rid of Meli in many ways but none worked. Then they realized that they had to undo the spell by themselves. Terissa’s father heard of a witch who helps undo spells so they got all ready and went there.

Once they reached the witch’s cottage which looked old, spooky and haunted. Terissa’s family felt agitated and walked to the main door and knocked on the door then the knob glinted and sparkled. Suddenly the door opened and the witch came out.

The witch was wearing a purple dress with a black hat holding a wand. With a croaky voice she said “Why are you all here?”. Terissa’s mother said “We need help undoing a spell. Can you please help us?”. Witch invited them in.

After Terissa’s family went inside they told her everything happened. Then they requested a witch for a spell to withdraw magic from Meli. The witch replied “It is possible but you will have to repeat the spell after me”. “HIG HOG HOGGTY HOO” shouted the witch followed by Terrisa’s family. The witch said you have to repeat the spell once you get back home to get rid of the spell of the Meli.

By the time Terissa’s family reached home it was late in the night so they shouted “HIG HOG HOGGTY HOO” and went to bed. The next night they all stayed awake and relieved to see that Meli did nothing.

Next day everything went back to normal and Terissa was very happy to get her Meli back. The end..
