The Fault In Our Stars

By Anushka Dey

you are the crystalline  snow that crowns the mountains

I am the sparkling stream of water giggling down the fountain

We are the same hues of red and orange painting the skies

I, the tranquil of sundown; you, the scintillating splendor of sunrise

You are the watery alphabets of clouds , tiny beads of rain

Me the petrichor when you quench the thirst of earthly plain

We are leather bound journals , lying at the  corner of bed

One waiting to be written on and one waiting to be read

You are  a field of wild flowers dancing in wind’s merry rhyme

I am a dead rose  mummified in sweet memories of old time

We are two trees planted at different ends of the same street

Like rails of a train track,  we walk side by side  but never meet

We are a pair of eyes, unraveling the mysteries of nature together

We see the whole wide world,   but never get to see each other

We are the two shores of same sea, the water keeping us apart

We gaze at each other , with the same pain and longing in our heart

We are poems in a language in which  the other is unversed

We are star-crossed lovers , our love is sacred yet cursed
