Just One Of Those Days

By Swati Singh

I was smiling. Even as a man bumped into me and made me drop half of my coffee. Even when a customer swore at me. Even when I got rejected from a job I had applied for.

It was just one of those days. I felt like I could conquer the world, like every problem could be solved if I just tried hard enough.

When I came back home after hours at my part time job at the cafe next to my college, I understood why it was one of those days. My friends were standing at my door, bags of snacks and beer in their hands. One of them held a cake - Happy Birthday was written on it. After an entire day of smiling, I cried.
