I Should Not, I Would Not

I wish I hadn’t known you at all

I wouldn’t be bothered at your rise or fall.

If you are happy or sad, I wouldn’t care,

All these worries I wouldn’t have to bear.

I wouldn’t want to know if you’re feeling up or down.

It wouldn’t have mattered how deep the frown.

I wouldn’t have had to try and conceal,

My cravings for you and how with them I deal.

This emotional dependence, whatever it may be

Is drawing me to you and not letting me free.

How I wish I could take an U-turn;

But there is so much from you to learn,

Which I wouldn’t have known without meeting you

So, I can surely endure the blue.

But my sadness is also of a changing hue.

I simply don’t understand which colour is true.

Still, I wish I could go back to the state,

When a mere handshake was a reason to celebrate.
