Eternal Longing

By Sumaiyya

Sunsets, they come and go Sunrises, the moon, the wind Even the stains on the walls, The maggots in the fruit, The black of my hair, Will eventually fade, Will eventually leave.

But not my hunger, oh My loyal companion, Come winter, come spring Through throes of time and Eternal space, it stays, Ravaging from the inside,

Like the stain corroding the wall, The maggots digesting the fruit And time taking away pigment from my hair, Bit by bit, everyday, Losing and never gaining, Falling, never getting back up.

And all I've ever wanted was

To be able to sleep To not feel anymore To be happy for once To not be hungry, Until forever comes.
