Building Mastery

What are you good at; I’m asking all of you here

Everyone looks puzzled, I can tell by your stare

I bet many here are confident in just a few skills

Like playing basketball, singing or cooking delicious meals

Skills you have mastered; one, two, maybe three?

Yet that pales in comparison to someone like me.

You may think, “How can he say that with such grandiosity”

But I dismiss your opinions, as I ... am the master of mediocrity!

After hearing this you must be in shock and maybe in awe

That there’s a god amongst you... totally ignorant and flawed

I see some of you sweating and getting the chills

At my sheer incompetence in numerous skills

Don’t try to keep up, as you never catch me

I was born with these talents, I’m just that brilliant you see

And yet I’m not infallible, I can’t be perfect forever

For staying perfect is not a realistic endeavor

As I get older, I learn and experience so many things

This erodes my mediocrity and all that it brings

I have come to understand that I cannot overcome life at all its stages

It’s such a shame because my mediocrity was at its peak for many ages

I could cry, I could curse at how unfair this world has become

However, I’ve learned skills to not be undone

I know the divine is leaving me; I’m losing my transcendence

Unfortunately, I’m ok with that, thanks to radical acceptance

Anyway, y’all should be thankful for my generosity

For giving you the privilege to meet THE Master of Mediocrity
