Am I Allowed to Press Pause

By Rucha Utekar

Been a few days since,

The great defeat, the lost appetite

Corpselike skin and jaded eyes

Same old story of how we die a few million times

Prayers falling short, planet’s disagreements

Thunderstorm striking me twice, falling into darkness yet another time

Gasp of air, I could feel my breathe

Straight to the buried caves

A ray of hope has emerged its way

Frozen body reviving itself

Oh! look the sun has risen again

Oh! no the sun has risen again

The battle horn, announces

Everyone hold your weapons, be on your tiptoes

Bruises made me strong

But the pain made me question if this was ever fun

Have the courage of climbing the mountain

Plus, a volcanic mind erupting self disappointment

Am I allowed to press pause, should I flip the hourglass?

Cause buying time could be the magical healing elixir, I need more of

Or it may transform into poison ivy, infecting my dormant roots

Rome wasn't built in a day

But infinity is just an illusion, you are one step closer to your grave

Prolonged time unlocks the gate of healing dreamland

Running out of it may unlock abandoned nightmare

I must arrive at one conclusion

Don’t exactly know what’s at stake, if the pause is pressed

Heavy cost is to be paid, that’s rest assured.

SUMMARY:

This poem is about following your dream, trying so hard to achieve it and failing at it numerous times. Oscillating back and forth, falling, facing defeat, reviving ourselves and repeat. Sometimes when we are in too much pain and feel the burn out, taking a pause feels sensible, but that also means stopping, while others continue to move forward.
