A Few Notches

By Syed Sajjad Qadri

I slide a few notches to trace my dreams

Only to find myself in the din of screams

Behind the beautiful faces I realise now

Are the ugly hearts I loved to love

I pull my wits a few notches down when I came

Saw her conscience bleeding in shame

The carcass I decorate with her memories

Will not let her sleep for centuries

I fix back by a few notches my pieces together

With the deceit she carried with her

But she is broken too, she doesn’t know

The edges of her pieces are crimped with ego
